Published reviews of the Ahma 98 promotape.
Veikeästi ja luultavasti Entombedin innoittamana nimetyn Ahman keskitempoisista biiseistä
tulee väistämättä mieleen Sacred Reichin kaltaiset 80-luvun lopulla loistaneet
trash-orkesterit.
tasapaksuiksi.

Ahma's debut demo last year was a rather pleasant aural experience.
To those who are not familiar with Ahma, their music could be simply described as crunching heavy rock with general
negative approach to everything.
A year later, and after some gigs and lineup changes, Ahma are back with a new four song demo.
The musical style hasn't changed much but somehow this lacks the power that their debut demo had.
The vocals are a raspy singing style.
The keys often sound rather out of place, and unneccessary even though they are used sparingly.
Ahma is probably a band that shows their capabilities fully on stage.

Negametallin totinen turbo päästää pahasti.
Demon ohessa saapunut korvatulppapari tuli tarpeeseen.
Asenteellisesti Ahma on virkistävä raipanisku kivakiva-maailmaan.
Negatiivisuuden filosofia lienee aihe, jonka vatvomisessa hupenee tovi jos toinenkin.
Miksi englanniksi laulava poppoo kulkee suomalaisella nimellä?
Näitä ristiriitaisuuksia on yllättävän paljon.
Ehkä olisi parasta lausua ahma englanniksi.
Bändin kotisivu pärjää kaltaistensa joukossa hyvin.
Siellä kuulokin säilyy paremmin.

The good country of Finland has had a good run of form in the demo section over the last few months, with
Ahma continuing the trend.
I suppose if you live where it's dark for months at a time the best thing you can do is 'Look negative, act
negative, sound negative' - Ahma's very own motto.
Their music is in the same league as fellow countrymen Babylon Whores, the Death Rock with Metal
overtones given added colour through the tasteful use of keyboards.
That's a most disturbing photo on the inlay card, though.
I can't get that guy's face out of my mind.

Once upon a time, Metallica made a demo tape.
Scruffy and poor, they bashed the thing together, called it 'No Life 'Til Leather' and sent it out into the world.
As I sit here, knee-deep in demos and home recordings,
I'm reminded of Metallica.
Maybe I have the new 'No Life 'Til Leather' right here in my stereo...
But listening to Finnish teenagers Ahma's four-track demo, I'm not sure that Metallica will be getting that
worried.
Ahma have that early Entombed, dirty guitar sound down to a tee, but they also seem to own the copyright on
the naffest lyrics this side of Clawfinger's rhyme book for kiddies.
And they insist on adding a particularly tacky organ into the proceedings.
Still, it can't be easy trying to be all gothic and mysterious when you sound like Dracula's country cousin.

This Man voisi olla kanadalaisen Annihilatorin tekoa.
Henkilöt soittavat hyvin ja musiikki on mukavaa kuunneltavaa.
Tämä ei ole niin rankkaa kuin edellisen demon musiikki, mutta hyvin tämänkin parissa viihtyy.
Taso on tasaista eikä mikään biisi nouse selkeästi muita paremmaksi.

The opening bars of 'Fanagoreia' are quite frankly great, definitely worthy of any metal giant.
Powerful, meaty guitars back up what is actually a very good singing voice and adequate drumming.
The use of keyboards however doesn't quite work; the sound is too sharp, but that's a minor niggle.
The only problem is that the song gets a little monotonous; a shame really as it has great potential, I think just a
little needs to be changed for it to be great.
It's hard to pick out any bands they sound like because they don't really fit in with other bands I've heard.
Perhaps new Moonspell has a similar sort of 'dark' mood.
'Idle' is very much a continuation, again with great riffs, and again slightly let down by the keyboards.
Maybe they should be a bit lower in the mix?
They make me feel like I'm in church singing (albeit the Devils Church singing Cradle Of Filth).
You know the guitar 'widdle' you get at the end of a riff sometimes? Well anyway, there's lots of that.
There's a Venom feel to 'Revalations Aside' I think.
Maybe that's who the vocals are closest to.
The guitar follows a slowed down typical Slayer riff, and the vocals are also reminiscent of Slayer, trying
to use minors a lot.
'This Man' is more of the same again I'm afraid, though the keyboard level is a bit better.
I think the main problem with the whole demo is a lack of tempo changes, causing it to seem a bit monotonous.
It's a shame really as there's definitely a lot of potential. Still, a good effort.
